Call for Papers for Maritime Archaeology and History Conference in Hawaii February 2011

This is a call for papers for the 22nd Annual Symposium on Maritime Archaeology and History of Hawai`i and the Pacific, February 18-21, 2011 in Hilo, on the Big island of Hawai`i. The theme for this year’s conference is “Reading Coastal Footprints: Ecology and Maritime Archaeology in the Pacific.” Paper topics are not limited to this theme but special consideration will be given to abstracts that incorporate this message.
Tentative session titles include: - Historical and archaeological research on human influences on marine life - Applying ecological models to archaeology - Recent maritime archaeology fieldwork - General sessions on maritime archaeology and maritime historyABSTRACTS should be no more than 300 words and include a title, name(s) of presenters and affiliation. All presenters are expected to register for the conference. Information concerning registration will be sent to presenters upon acceptance of their abstracts.
STUDENTS: There will be two student scholarships awarded to cover the registration fee for this conference. Please see the website for more information. Qui sommes nous ?
L’association loi 1901 « Te ‘Ihipapa nō Ta’ato’a » (L’archéologie pour tous), basée en Polynésie française, a pour objectifs :
-Faire connaître l’archéologie et le patrimoine archéologique du fenua auprès du grand public
-Contribuer à la recherche archéologique locale
Pourquoi ?
L’archéologie est une discipline passionnante mais peu connue. Elle consiste en l’étude des sociétés anciennes à travers les traces matérielles laissées par les ancêtres (sites d’habitat, marae, sites horticoles, objets, etc… )
L’archéologie est pratiquée dans le monde entier. Tout le monde a entendu parler des fascinantes pyramides d’Egypte, du Sphinx, de Pompéi, du temple d’Angkor et autres merveilles de l’humanité. Cependant, on parle moins du patrimoine archéologique de notre fenua qui est d’une grande richesse mais reste encore méconnu.
Notre objectif est de contribuer à une meilleure connaissance et promotion de notre patrimoine archéologique.
Pour qui ?-Les écoles, collèges et lycées
-le grand public
Comment ?
-Interventions dans les établissements scolaires (exposés…)
-visites guidées de sites archéologiques accessibles au public
-création de documents thématiques sur le patrimoine archéologique

Ia ora na tout le monde, l'association "Te 'ihipapa no ta'ato'a" crée enfin son blog...notre objectif est de faire connaître l'archéologie du fenua au grand public en partageant notre passion avec d'autres passionnés. La richesse de notre patrimoine archéologique est, hélas, peu connue, faute d'informations facilement accessibles. Nous souhaitons contribuer à faire connaître l'archéologie polynésienne en montrant qu'il ne s'agit pas que d'un domaine réservé à des spécialistes au jargon incompréhensible. Ce sont aussi, et surtout, des morceaux de mémoire et d'histoire recomposés qui éclairent l'être humain sur son passé.
Notre association a été créée en 2007 avec pour motivation principale de partager ces lumières avec le plus grand nombre..
